Chinese Observatory

China is building a $13 million observatory at Yangbajain, Tibet. It’s located 15,500 feet above sea level in the uninhabited mountains of Southern Tibet.

The high, dry air is expected to be ideal conditions to observe cosmic rays. The particles leave faint fluorescent blue streaks that flash too quickly for the human eye as they enter Earth’s atmosphere.
