Organic molecules have been detected on a planet in another solar system. Organic molecules are necessary for the chemical reactions to form life as we know it. Scientists don’t expect to find any life here but are excited to detect the components. The exoplanet is in the constellation of Vulpecula (the Fox) and is called HD 189733b. It’s a large planet about the size of Jupiter. Its orbit is very close to its sun so it has a high temperature of about 1700° F., which is hot enough to melt silver. Astronomers from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory detected methane and water in the exoplanet’s atmosphere. For more information, go to the website at http://hubblesite.org/news/2008/11.
