Meteorite Lights Sky

On Thursday, March 27, 2003, at midnight a meteor entered our atmosphere and exploded. The sky flashed blue, similar to lightning. People in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Wisconsin saw the disintegrating meteorite flash and explode across the sky. Pieces of the meteorite fell in Illinois and Northwest Indiana. In Beecher, Illinois, people reported rumbling and tiny particles hitting their house. Meteorite pieces ranged from the size of gravel to softballs. A 5-pound meteorite fell through a family’s living room ceiling in Park Forest, Illinois. Most of the debris fell in a path 20 wide by 80 miles long hitting cars and houses.
