Valparaiso Observations

Valparaiso University Observatory will be having fall open house hours from September through December, weather permitting. The free open houses are held for one hour on scheduled Friday evenings.

On September 10 and 24, the observations will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. They will continue on October 8 and 22 at the same time. After Daylight Savings Time ends at the end of October, the observation sessions will be moved up one hour and be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on November 5 and 12, and December 3.

The university’s computer controlled telescope will view the moon, planets, star clusters, and galaxies. Faculty will be available to offer descriptions of objects observed and answer questions.

To confirm weather conditions, call 219-464-5202 after 5:00 p.m. on the days of the open houses. Groups planning to attend should make arrangements in advance by calling 219-464-5369. The observatory is on the southeast corner of the Valparaiso University campus, between Gellerson Center and U.S. 30.
