In 1572, a star named Tycho exploded into a supernova. The remnant cloud can be seen by astronomers. A team of astronomers led by Pilar Ruiz-Lapuente from the University of Barcelona, Spain has found a star moving through the wreckage. It has a speed three times faster than any stars in the area. Scientists believe the star was once part of a binary, or two star system. The runaway star is like our sun only older, and its companion was probably a white dwarf star that was pulling gas from it. The white dwarf star took in too much gas, blew up as a Type 1a supernova, and the companion star was hurled away by the blast.
