Students Build Satellite

Twenty-three university groups worked together over the Internet to build a satellite and its payload. European university students built a satellite under the supervision of the European Space Agency (ESA). The Student Space Exploration and Technology Initiative (SSETI) Express satellite was launched into space aboard a Russian Kosmos 3M launcher from Plesetsk Cosmodrome on October 27, 2005. An hour after launch, SSETI Express deployed three cubic microsatellites. Two of the “cubesats” sent signals from orbit. With the success of this project, other projects for university students are already underway.
