Science Lab at Space StationThe Atlantis space shuttle delivered the science laboratory Destiny to the international space station in February, and attached it to the Alpha section of the international space station. Destiny cost $1.4 billion. The lab is 28 feet long and 14 feet in diameter. The inside of the lab has shelves and wall compartments. The long walls are bright white, and the far wall is bright blue with matching handrails. The first experiment is scheduled to arrive in March. Destiny will enable astronauts and cosmonauts to begin major science work aboard the space station. Destiny is the fourth room on the space station, and makes the space station the largest orbiting outpost ever in terms of habitable space. |
