Climate Changes Hurricanes

James Eisner at Florida State University has been studying hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean over the past fifty years. He has discovered a direct link between Earth’s changing climate, or global warming, and hurricane intensity.

Eisner compared hurricane intensities to two other factors; average global near-surface air temperatures and Atlantic sea-surface temperatures. He discovered that during hurricane season, air temperatures can be used to predict sea-surface temperatures. The research supports the theory of a physical mechanism that can account for the various observations. Eisner’s conclusions are that Earth’s changing climate is making Atlantic hurricanes stronger and global warming will further increase storm damage.
