The Merrillville Community Planetarium is part of the Merrillville Community School Corporation, a K-12 public school system in Northwest Indiana. The Planetarium is located in Clifford Pierce Middle School. We provide programming for Merrillville classes, outside groups, and the public.

  • 1880 - German aerospace engineer Walter Hohmann born. Demonstrates a minimum fuel manuever between two orbits in 1925 text.
  • 1965 - Voskhod 2 (USSR) launched. Cosmonauts Pavel Belyayev & Alexsei Leonov complete 17 orbits during 26 hour flight.
  • 1965 - Alexsei Leonov (USSR) becomes first person to perform a spacewalk, lasting 12 minutes.
