The Merrillville Community Planetarium is part of the Merrillville Community School Corporation, a K-12 public school system in Northwest Indiana. The Planetarium is located in Clifford Pierce Middle School. We provide programming for Merrillville classes, outside groups, and the public.

  • 1838 - U.S. mathematical astronomer George Hill was born. Greatest master of celestial mechanics of his time.
  • 1959 - Pioneer 4 (USA) launched. Missed moon by 37,300 miles. Returned more data on Van Allen belts.
  • 1969 - Apollo 9 (USA) launched to test lunar module in Earth orbit.
  • 1972 - Pioneer 10 (USA) launched. 1st probe to go to Jupiter, 1st to leave solar system.
