The Merrillville Community Planetarium is part of the Merrillville Community School Corporation, a K-12 public school system in Northwest Indiana. The Planetarium is located in Clifford Pierce Middle School. We provide programming for Merrillville classes, outside groups, and the public.

  • 1611 - Johannes Hevelius born in Poland. Hevelius best known for his famous atlases of the moon and stars.
  • 1921 - Albert Einstein suggested the possibility of measuring the universe.
  • 1960 - The first wire photograph bounced off the moon sent from Hawaii to Washington, D.C. by the U.S. Navy.
  • 1986 - Space Shuttle Challenger explodes killing seven astronauts.
  • 1986 - STS-51-L (Challenger). Planned TDRS launch. Loss of vehicle and crew. Duration: 73 sec.
